Third trimester
Kindergarten does BEGINNING weaving
2nd grade printed fish
Second grade began by drawing the seaweed with fluorescent oil pastels. They painted over their paper with blue water color and the oil pastel resisted the paint! Finally, they designed a fish on a piece of foam, cut it out, and then printed it over their ocean scene.
Paper clay cakes in 6th
Students are shown covering the cake form made out of a cereal box with paper clay. Once it dries, they will use paint to decorate it.
Plaster of paris initials- the finAl project in 8th grade
Students use cardboard to make their letter and then pour plaster of Paris into the form. They remove it and then sand and paint it.
Weaving in 7th grade
Using cardboard looms, the students create the warp using yarn. Once this is complete, they are ready to weave. The students really worked hard on this!
The color wheel in first grade
The students used play dough in primary colors to mix secondary and tertiary colors.
4th grade does paper mache
After creating the armature, the students used strips of newsprint and paste to create their pencil. When it was dry, they were able to paint them.
5th grade butterfly prints
After creating four prints, the 5th graders added color using chalk and oil pastels.
PreScHool fossils
Preschool pressed plastic creatures into clay. Once they dried, the students painted them.
Third grade suN with Rays paintings
After drawing the sun on their paper, the students began with yellow and then mixed colors to get different gradients of color for the rays. You can see yellow orange, orange yellow, red orange, as well as other colors. After they finished the sunrise, they painted the land and water.
Second Trimester
Fourth grade studies ton SchulTen
Ton Schulten is a Danish artist who mainly paints landscapes in big blocks of color. The fourth graders divided their paper into grids and then used tints of color to create their paintings.
Clay snowmen by Second grade
Making clay snowmen is a little more complicated than it seems. These snowmen have been carefully rolled. Each ball was scratched up with a toothpick and then pressed into the next ball with a little water. The hats were carefully formed. Finally, after 2 weeks of drying, they were ready to paint. The second graders are shown painting their snowmen.
Preschool snowy trees
Preschool worked with blue chalk on the black background for these works of art. The chalk added texture and then they added snowflakes with a Q tip. During the next weeks, they painted trees to glue onto their background.
Paintings by Each class done in honor of mr. thacker
Our beloved fourth grade teacher went to be with Jesus on January 22, 2021. Mrs. Kleimola came in to art class to help us paint these beautiful floral still life paintings that were given to Mrs. Thacker from each class in the school.
6th grade painTs ducks like Mary cassatt
Using small brush strokes and warm and cool colors, 6th grade did a wonderful job painting like impressionist painter Mary Cassatt.
3rd grade creates clay sea scapes
Third grade looked at paintings of sailboats done by Claude Monet. Then they used clay to create these sea scapes. They used words such as coil, slab, and score as they created these.
Grade 5 paints the great wave
After learning about The Great Wave off Kangawa by Hokusai, the students drew and then painted large waves with Mount Fuji in the background.
Byzantine painted mosaics By grades 7 and 8
The students learned about the masters of the mosaic - the Byzantines. They drew a proportioned portrait and then used repetitive color and controlled paint strokes to fill it.
Kindergarten making painted paper
Each table got one color and painted as many papers as they could in 30 minutes. They used dark and light shades. They learned that adding white creates a tint. Next week, students will draw and cut out tulips from these beautiful papers!!
First grade clay turtles
First grade created turtles using a slab of clay for the shell and three coils of clay for the feet, head and tail. They are pictured painting their turtles.
First trimester
Grades 7 and 8
Grades 7 and 8 painted the mountains at Lake McDonald in Glacier National Park. Notice the colorful glacial rocks along the beach.
Preschool fall trees
The first week, preschool painted the tree trunks (their traced handprint). The next week, they dipped creased cardboard tubes in paint to make the leaves, and they discovered that when red and yellow paint mixes, the result is orange!
3rd grade family portraits
The third graders looked at examples of family portraits. We discussed how family portraits look with people standing in front and behind each other, where the family members are looking (at the camera or at other family members), and even where arms and hands are placed. We talked about hairstyles, eyes, skin tones, and so many other things. The students did a wonderful job painting their own family portraits. These are precious!
4th grade op art
Fourth grade learned about the artist Victor Vasarely. We discussed op art and then created spirals that began to look 3-dimensional as we added shading.
Kindergarten owls
Kindergarten is working on fine motor skills! Tearing paper can be difficult for little fingers, but we are getting better by the tear! By layering the torn paper, we created texture which looks like feathers!
Fifth grade learns about yayoi kUsama
Yayoi Kusama is a contemporary Japanese artist who loves polka dots and pumpkins! She works with sculpture and installation, but also paints. After learning about her, the students painted her portrait.
First grAde paints their dot
First grade used a black ink dauber to make different lines on their giant dots. Then, they painted them. These dots were inspired by the story The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds.
6th grade printed cityscapes
The 6th grade started by painting their background sunset and water using tempera cakes. After they finished painting, they designed their cityscape on a piece of foam that became their printing plate. They applied ink with a brayer and then made 4 prints to complete their project.
Second grade Autumn landscapes
After learning about Vincent Van Gogh, the second graders painted a fall landscape inspired by the painting below. The students used vocabulary such as background, middleground, foreground, horizon line as they completed their paintings.
