Third trimester
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we missed most of the final trimester of the school year- which included our 3-D art unit, weaving, and the Art Show. Usually, each student selects their top 3 favorite pieces of art, and it’s hung in the hallways and put on display for the final month of the year. Since we weren't able to be in school, we decided to do a virtual art show. Each class has a video displaying art from the school year. Enjoy!

Grade 5 paints nOtre Dame at night
Notre Dame is a cathedral in Paris that is decorated with lights for holidays and festivals. Fifth grade created this for their first project this year.
We began with liquid watercolor using the wet on wet technique. The students painted their papers with water and then added drops of color and watched them spread. They even tipped their papers and watched the colors intermingle. I heard a student say that she was going home to try this again!
Here are a few finished projects!
grade 4 travels to Maine’s coast
After viewing pictures of the northern Atlantic Coast, the students used paint, oil pastel, and collage techniques to create these landscapes!
preschool Yarn and paint masterpieces
Preschool used yarn dipped in glue to create their lines on paper. Some lines were straight while other lines wiggled. After the glued yarn dried, they used tempera cakes to paint their papers. These turned out so colorful!
fIrst grade learns to sew
First grade started by reading the story THE DOT by Peter Reynolds. After reading it, the students painted dots on black cardboard using foam daubers. The next week, they used yarn to sew and masking tape to adhere it to the back. They were quite successful!
FUnny FACED PUMPKINS
2nd grade created painted paper using orange and yellow last week. Today was the last day of September so we read a wonderful story about how pumpkins grow. Then, each student drew their own pumpkin on the painted paper sheet and created a funny face on the front. These are adorable!!
third grade monarchs
Every year, Mrs. Gordon brings caterpillars to school for the 3rd graders to observe as they change into butterflies. This art project fits so well with the classroom curriculum. The students are shown creating their own monarch butterflies.
grade 7 and 8 reverse acetate portraits
Grades 7 and 8 worked on these portraits. Below are the 7 th grade students working on painting the back side of their acetate portraits. They painted the back so that the Sharpie marker lines would show through.
Below are some finished portraits of our 8th grade students. They did a fabulous job!!
6th grade
Grade 6 started their stacked cubes today. After observing some stacked cubes, we discussed how one side of the cube is lighter than the other depending on where the light is shining. The students used white to tint their colors so that the cubes actually appear 3 dimensional.

FIrst grade alphabet resist paintings
These projects involved fluorescent oil pastel, watercolor, and ink daubers filled with India ink. Our inspiration was Jasper Johns, the famous American painter, who incorporates letters and number in his art.
2nd grade paints color wheel fish
Second grade started by drawing 6 ovals. These became their fish once fins were added. The students were given the primary colors (red, yellow, blue) and they mixed these colors to get the secondary colors (purple, green, and orange.). They tinted the blue paint to paint the water! Didn’t they do a great job?
7th and 8th grade Felting project
Each student received a white piece of prefelt that they used to start their project. We looked at artwork by Kandinsky for inspiration; and then - using yarn and roving - the students created their masterpieces. Each student used a very sharp needle that pushed the fibers through the prefelt.
fourth grade paints toucans
After looking at pictures of toucans, the 4th grade drew toucans in leafy green settings. We outlined everything in black oil pastel and then the students were given paint. These pictures were taken on the first day of painting them.
