tHIRD TRIMESTER
6th grade wayne Thiebaud inspired cakes
6th grade constructed cakes using cereal boxes and paper clay. Below, they are shown painting their cakes. Next, they will use caulk to add frosting and model magic to add fruits and candies. This art project makes everyone hungry!
Feast your eyes on these...
7th grade 3-d Birds
The 7th grade is working on 3 dimensional birds. They created the armature using wire, paper, and then paper clay. They painted them and then made feathers, wings, beaks out of paper to glue onto their bird.
8th grade final project
Every year, 8th grade spends the last month working on this final project. They begin by using cardboard to construct a mold of their initial. When they are finished, they pour plaster of Paris into the mold, sand it when it’s dry, and then paint it to reflect things they like or an artist they’ve learned about. The students are pictured working on their painting.
Some of the finished projects-
second grade circle painting
What would it look like if every student was give a cup with one color, told to stand around a large sheet of paper and paint circles, and then asked to move a space to the left every four minutes? Look at the pictures to see what they created!!! Aren’t they amazing?
Kindergarten
Kindergarteners are so talented! We talked about Claude Monet and looked at the gorgeous painting below. The students did a wonderful job painting their own irises.
First grade snails
First grade worked the first week at making clay coils. These became our snails! On the second week, they painted them with fluorescent paints.
clay owls in third
Third grade made clay owls. In the pictures below, the students are shown painting their owls!
clay flowers in 4th
Fourth grade made flowers using coils of clay that they laid on a slab background. Here, they are pictured painting their clay pieces.
Here is a sample of the finished pieces-
marker pRints in third grade
3rd grade made designs using ink pen on a square piece of styrofoam. When they were finished, they colored their styrofoam with water based markers. Then, they used a baby wipe to wet their paper and laid down the styrofoam in a rotating manner to create 4 prints on a square sheet of paper.
pre K4 Mixes it up!!!
After reading the story Mix it Up, the students went back to their seats where primary colored dots of tempera paint were waiting for them to mix and smear and paint with their fingers. Once they mixed to their hearts content, white and black paint was added for them to mix tints and shades.
Second trimester
2nd grade Snowmen
Second grade used air dry clay to construct these snowmen. They learned how to score (scratch up) the clay before attaching the different parts of the snowman. In the pictures below, they are painting their creations.
grade 7 and 8 printmaking
The 7th and 8th grade started this art period by searching for their favorite fish on their chrome books. Next, they were given a piece of linoleum. They used special carving tools to carve the fish into the linoleum. They needed to evaluate the texture and details on the fish and convert it into positive and negative space. The positive space would receive the ink and the negative space (which they carved away) would remain white! Look at them working through this project!
Grade 7
Grade 8
Grade 5 desert perspective landscapes
The 5th graders worked hard on these perspective landscapes. The larger the cactus the closer it is to the viewer, and the smaller the cactus the further away it is. They used oil pastels and Faber Castell connector paints.
6th grade printed cityscapes
In the pictures below, you can observe the 6th graders drawing their city onto a piece of styrofoam. Once their city is drawn, they will cut it apart and use markers as well as ink and brayers to make prints of their cities.
Here the students are pictured pulling their prints.
kindergarten and the color wheel
Kindergarten learned about the color wheel today! They started with playdough balls in the primary colors. When they started mixing the colors, squeals of delight were heard as the new color started to form!
Ice painting
Pre-Kindergarten started the New Year with ice cube painting. On this warm January day, we painted with warm colors. Next time, we will paint with cool colored ice cubes! Much of what we do in preK art is process art which means it’s more about the creative journey or experience of creating art then about the finished product.
grade 1 Bleeding tiSsue ❤️
This was quite the magical art project for these first graders. We started by using ink daubers to draw the heart, divide it into 5 sections, and then add lines or patterns to each section. Next class, we started with color wheels and discussed analogous colors (neighbors on the color wheel) and complementary colors (opposite on the color wheel). The students painted the hearts with water, added the analogous bleeding tissue papers, and watched the colors transfer to the paper. So many “Oo’s” and “Ah’s”. This was a fun one!!
Grade 3 moose
Third grade learned some facts about these woodland creatures, and then created these handsome moose. We used words such as “symmetrical” as we created the antlers and “shading” as we painted different parts of the moose.
First trimester
First Grade
First grade started the year by talking about the elements of art, especially line and shape. Here they are adding paint to their drawings.
pre-school
Preschool has been working on their shapes. We have read books about shapes. We have cut and identified shapes using play dough. Here we are using Kwik Sticks to paint the border of our shape collages. Out of each kwik stick comes tempera paint! It’s really fun for preschool to use!
GRADE 5 STRING ART
After coloring cardboard circles with oil pastels, painting them with black paint, and then scraping off the wet paint to make designs, the 5th grade was ready to sew their radiating designs onto their cardboard. Here are pictures of the students sewing!!!
7 and 8 study Sonia delaunAy
Grades 7 and 8 studied Ukrainian-born French artist Sonia Delaunay. She spent much of her life working with her husband, Robert Delaunay, in Paris. They (along with others) co-founded the Orphism art movement, noted for its strong use of color and geometric shapes. The students used chalk and oil pastel on bogus paper.
Grade 4 Landscapes
After learning about the America painter, Grant Wood, 4th grade started painting rural landscapes. They learned to use words such as background, middleground, and foreground; and where to use the lighter and darker colors.
Kindergarten birds
The students all know what the primary colors are after this lesson. After painting the primary colors (red, yellow, blue), they each mixed their own secondary colors (orange, green).
grade 6
Grade 6 discussed the element of art - line! They used many different kinds of lines to create this landscape! The pictures show them using connector paints to paint their landscapes.
3rd grade studies robin mead
The art of Robin Mead was very inspiring to 3rd grade. Big flowers, huge sunrises, swirling waves-all things the students incorporated into their art work. First, they sketched their landscapes, and then they traced it in black glue. They used texture plates and crayons to color it all and finally they painted it with watercolor.
Grade 2 STILL LIFE paintings
We studied Paul Cézanne and looked at his art work before we started our own. Second grade is shown at the beginning stages of their still life paintings.
2nd trimester
Pre-Kindergartem started the new year with ice cube paintings. On this day, we painted with warm colors. Next time, we will paint with cool colors.
